Crucial has just released a new series of SSDs that, from what I can tell for the standard user blows everything else away price/value wise. They are fast, they are cheap, and name brand.

For a regular prosumer why would anybody buy a more expensive drive? Obviously theres no DRAM so for write intensive environments that will hurt but for every day SSD-level speed increase this seems like a no brainer. Admittedly I want a 1TB model and will probably go with the external G-Drive R-Series (first G Drive product I have ever considered buying).

Thoughts?

Actually they are more or less in line with other "value" SSD brands, like the low end Kingston and ADATA. They might have a slight edge, especially at the higher capacities, but "blow away" is not the adjective I'd use. If they were to ship 1TB at $60, that is "blow away" territory, not 500GB at $80.

The other brands compete speed-wise? I hadnt seen that...

I haven't seen anything on the BX500 other than pricing at amazon, and a few announcement blurbs. If there is a credible review out there, I've missed it; feel free to enlighten us.

I will say, though, that unless they've achieved something really special in the 4k random read/write department at QD1 or 2, they're going to bump against SATA limits just like everyone else, and the differences that are left will be mostly on paper, just like all the rest.

The different is Crucial ssd is more stable than Kingston and ADATA.

And you know this, how? using statistics from, what?

Crucial SSD is good stuff, but there are only a handful of flash memory and controller makers, none of which are in any relevant way substandard.

How is $10 less than the Crucial MX500 considered as "blows everything else away price/value wise"?

What’s $10 less? Are you looking all the way up to the 480gb?
Crucial MX500 500GB is $89.99 from Amazon via the link I provided in my post.

Western Digital and Sandisk 500GB options also available at that pricepoint from Newegg.

Sure, $80 for a 480GB 2.5" SSD is a decent price, but it's not in any way earth-shattering when name-brand proven 500GB units are available at $90.

Strange, for some reason the prices looked way different when I looked and youre absolutely right. Thanks for pointing that out.
