I have Apple TVs all over the house and one HomePod. At any given time I can see what’s playing on any of them from my iPhone and even pause, skip, etc.
However, if I’m playing music, video or any sort of media on my Mac, there’s no way to see it on my iPhone.
There’s 2 workarounds to this, but I don’t think they’re quite as elegant as the Apple TV / HomePod way.
1. Use the iTunes remote app and home sharing. This works, but for iTunes/Music.app only and you can’t use it on the Lock Screen. You have to unlock your phone, then open the app to see what’s playing or play/pause/skip.
2. You can AirPlay from your iPhone to your Mac, but that just means you need to have the content on your phone first and then you’re streaming the songs over WiFi for no reason instead of just being able to see what’s playing.
Is there any other way, or did Apple just forget to design this feature like how they did it for every other Apple product?
