Hi guys. My brother just gave me his iPod Touch with 1.1.5 on it. I just have a couple quick questions that I hope will get straight simple answers here.

1. Why would anyone want to have it Jailbroken?

2. Should I just update it through iTunes to 2.1 for $10?

3. Is there any other option I am unaware of?

Why search the forums? Because you'll find a bunch of concise info that people have already posted instead of the rabble that follows each new thread about the same thing.

Put on applications that Apple doesn't allow.
Themes.
Firmware changes.
Disk mode.

App Store apps cost money?

Jailbreaking lets you do some customization that you otherwise wouldn't be able to achieve. Also, you can use the "iphone backgrounder" app to run apps (where else?) in the background.

Get 2.1. It adds tons of functionality - games, utilities.

Even after you upgrade to 2.1, you can still jailbreak, and get the best of both worlds!
