I'm not sure what "it" you're referring to, but the last iPod touch was manufactured 6 years ago, wasn't a phone, and in no way compares to a modern iPhone. The technology is primitive by comparison. Might as well compare to a Palm Pilot while we're at it.
It probably helped that the iPod touch had no cellular modem, no NFC, no GPS, no Bluetooth, no LIDAR, no noise canceling mic, no biometric authentication and only one speaker. There was a lot less hardware to cram inside the shell.
