Fired up YouTube and headed to my favorite channels to check out some 1080 video on the new phone... But it only lets me select 720 on my phone. Is there a work around and/or reason why?

Interesting. These were for sure otherwise available in 1080P?

Give it time. Let the developers update their apps. It's not going to happen over night.

App needs to be updated.

Use McTube...
It lets you choose the quality regardless of your connection type.:p

Yeah it's for sure 1080 content. I'm sitting at my computer at work so I made sure to double check. I'm also connected to my works wifi.

How does 1080p video work on the 6 Plus? Would the app first have to support and render video at 1242x2208 and then downsample it to 1080? If that is the case, would the videos look blurrier than on a device that doesn't have to downsample?

The official Youtube App hasn't been updated to recognize iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. please download McTube which will show you your beautiful 1080p content. I'm sorry to say it, but google's apps pays more attention to their Android users then iOS, BB and windows.
