We have a resolution of 2048x1536 since the iPad 3 and YouTube videos are still rubbish in our iPads or iPhones.
480p in a Retina display? That's pathetic!

Download McTube it lets you set up to 1080p for Full HD videos while on cellular data... but for embedded you are out of luck! Some embedded videos don't offer any quality option, but others do... but not beyond 480p, so you have to link up to McTube if you want full quality... most annoying!

Youtube videos are typically rubbish in quality.

I've noticed issues with Youtube videos, but it normally has to do with the Youtube player just not responding. Usually at least for me it goes to whatever "HD" resolution it supports when I go full screen or clears up as it continues.

Granted it could all be 480P.

The youtube app goes up to 720p on my iPhone 6

Really?

I find them excellent quality, but of course they are dependent on the quality and the device the poster uploaded them at, but 1080p youtube's are generally lovely and clear.

1080p hasn't been available for 5-6 months now (due to YouTube restrictions)

Yes, you can select 1080p but it's 720p, not 1080p

I did say "Granted it could all be 480p" :)

I have my own frustrations with the Youtube embedded in iOS.

I know when it comes to YouTube I will be seeing badly converted hair band concerts, or videos of explaining how to put on makeup (not for me) or two nerds go on and on about something that is of no consequence to me. I'm not really thinking "does this have enough P's" when I'm on Youtube. I'm mostly happy when the buttons work and work responsively
