I recently purchased a second Apple TV Siri remote thinking we could have both paired.

I wonder what the reason for this is? Plus, why sell the remote in places like Target if you can't add it onto your device?

Do you think it's feasible this functionality could be added in the future? Or no?

Both can be paired, but one is only usable at a given time. Works the same way when using remote and iPhone as remote, it will disconnect the other based on what one is being used.

It makes me re-pair the original by holding it next to Apple TV the next time I come back. Then the time after that, the other needs pairing again.

Do you think I'm doing something wrong?

Mine is the same way, so I’m sure you’re not doing anything wrong. It’s unfortunate you can’t pair 2 at the same time.

Only one Siri Remote can be paired at a time. This has been the case since the 2015 ATV4 (HD).

I doubt it will change anytime soon or ever, unless there is a more gaming focused Siri Remote in the future.

If anything, it made more sense for Apple to enable multiple pairing with the original Siri Remote, since it was more gaming focused than the current one. So, if Apple didn't allow it with the original, I doubt it will be enabled with the current model.

Same situation with SkyQ as you can only have one Bluetooth remote paired at a time.
The only available option was one Bluetooth and another IR which you can do with the AppleTV all be it you’ll have to use the learning function to map the required button commands to a spare remote.
Some TVs will allow limited functionality over HDMI CEC using the TV remote.

Curious what you mean by this. I frequently switch between the Remote app on my iPhone/iPad and the Siri remote without issue. The ATV responds immediately to all 3. It’s not like you’d use two of these simultaneously.

This is the worst design flaw I've ever seen from Apple, and I've been using their products all day long for 40 years (literally).

I just bought one for my wife and one for myself to put on our bedside tables. Nope, it turns out.

This wouldn't be an issue for me if the iPhone remote app could control the TV volume and mute, but it doesn't. This is totally uncharacteristic for Apple. Really bad.

It does. Open the iPhone remote app and use the iPhone's volume buttons.

This only works if you're controlling the volume via HDMI-CEC, if you're using IR, then the phone remote won't work for volume.
