Looking forward to picking up my iPad Air next Friday, but thinking about the M7 chip in there... what would that be used for?

I understand it's utility on the iPhone since that's likely in your purse/pocket and can track steps/movement.

How would this benefit a tablet?

Just a shot in the dark, but it might be since it's the same A7 chip as the iPhone 5S, it might be cheaper/easier from the production angle to just keep it intact with the M7 rather than retooling for slightly different production of the same chip, minus M7.

Low cost of scale.

They probably put the exact same mainboard from the iPhone right into the iPad. M7 circuits and all.

I'm guessing. We'll find out when iFixit has at it.
