So I want to buy a used Mac Mini M1 (out of warranty already). I checked the serial number with online checkers and they correctly detected model and manufacture date, but somehow showed that it's "Not Activated" and "Not Registered" (though one of them showed it was activated). Even though the seller is using the device right now (Monterrey is installed). How that can be and is it normal?

Registering a product, it usually up to the owner if they want to register a device. IIRC, when I purchased my 2018 Mini from Amazon, I don't remember being asked that. Registration is usually for warranty purposes and for Apple to send you info or deals on future products.

If memory serves me, once you reset an M1 Mini, it should deactivate that device. Macs are now being treated more and more like iOS and iPadOS devices. It's not until you sign in with your Apple account information that the device activates. That could be the case here. I don't know if you got a good deal on the M1 mini but Amazon recently was selling the base M1 mini for $569.

I got it for about 460 USD, it would cost me 160 USD additionally to 569 to pay local сustoms tax and shipping if I bought it from Amazon to my country. Also, this mini I bought is almost not used (8 Power On hours and 721GB data units written according to SMART data). So I consider it a pretty good deal. Thank you.
