Why so few printers with AirPrint?

I have been waiting for Canon to release a printer with AirPrint support - wondering if anyone knows the status of new AirPrint printers? It seems we still only have the original 5 or so HP printers?

And is it at all possible that some older printers will get AirPrint updates or will only new ones get AirPrint?

Nearly every printer already supports AirPrint - you're just going to have to tweak some things around for it to actually work.

The reason so few officially support it is because of business. If you want to print from an iOS device, you're going to have to buy a printer and the people who think that its important to print from their iPhone or iPad go out and buy one.
