Why the unlocked iphone 4s

Ok so im here debating why should i get the unlocked iphone 4s, truth is i dont really have too much knowledge on the benefits so im coming to my fellow macrumors family for help.


1) what are the perks for getting the iphone 4s

2) do att have prepaid/month to month plans for the iphone

3) can i feel free to use this with verizon sprint and att and any other carrier

4) if your getting the iphone 4s unlocked what are your reasons
 
1. 4S has Siri and a lot of improved hardware specs like the A5 chip.
2. On AT&T you have to buy an individual or family plan to have the iPhone.
3. The unlocked iPhone will only work with GSM, so you could really only use it on T-mobile. The unlocked phone will not work with Verizon or Sprint.
4. I'm not getting it because I'm with Sprint and there would be no point.

  1. What do you mean by the perks of a 4S exactly? It's a great phone! Anything in particular you were looking for here? Fast phone, great OS, great camera etc..
  2. AT&T does not have month-to-month plans for the iPhone specifically. However, if you purchase a phone off-contract, you can use it with a pay-as-you-go plan and AT&T can't really do anything about it.
  3. If you buy a GSM unlocked AT&T iPhone, it will not work on CDMA networks such as Sprint/Verizon.
  4. I got an unlocked phone because I travel quite extensively and do not want to pay AT&T's exorbitant roaming charges. An unlocked phone works perfectly for me since I can buy a local sim card and pop it in. To a lesser extent, an unlocked phone also has a significantly higher resale value.
 
do att pay as you go subscribers benefits from the super fast data speeds provided due to hspa+ provided with the iphone 4s
 
1) no contract required

2) you can chose any prepaid GSM card

3) if you pay FULL price mostly you will realize ho much money you are spending for the Phone + monthly plan (compared people who get with $199 subsidy plan including me :p )

4) no hassle when you travel abroad

5) lots of flexibility
 
In the US, you don't have a lot of choices for service with an unlocked iPhone. If you want full functionality, e.g. 3G data speeds, visual voicemail, etc. - you have to use AT&T. And, AT&T charges you the same rate whether you're on a contract or not.

The one area where having an unlocked iPhone is a definite advantage is if you frequently travel overseas. With an unlocked phone, you can pop in a prepaid SIM in almost any country and use your phone.

If you aren't one of the jetset, take the subsidy - you'll pay the same price per month to AT&T whether you do or don't, so you may as well save the money.
 
so if i get the factory unlocked i phone 4s and get the Att prepaid plan for $50 will i get the great data speeds as someone on contract
