Why there should be enough stock on launch day!

I was lucky enough to be able to get through to pre-order to have delivery on the 24th. But for the people who didn't or the people who reserved for pick up I have some logic to help your nerves (maybe)

Apple annouced that they sold 600,000 iPhone 4s, but if we remember last year. Apple sold 1,000,000 iPhone 3GS in its first weekend! So really Apple should atleast be prepared to ship 1,000,000 in the first weekend! Granted there is one big thing going against us. It is being sold in more countries at launch!

Am I probably right on this idea?

You should be right. My local apple store never ran out of stock in the past. But, then again, there's no white this year.

im assuming there are 400,000 more iphones out there right now, and then say that the stores will get there stock on the 23rd, 5 days from now im not greedy and selling it on ebay i just want one and best buy seems like the best fit

I don't think they will have as many as last year just because the white isn't being sold. You had to figure they would have at least a 4:1 ratio black/white(600,00:150,000) for a total of 750,000 phones, if not more white? that just being reserved/pre=ordered.

They could only have 600,000 if the white was suppopssed to be the other half of the launch shipment

So are you thinking that in their manufacturing during the run-up to launch they have four black phones going through the process then a gap where the white one would have been?

no. separate sections of the plant where they manufacture and a major issue with the section that produces the white shells if anything.
and the bottom line is, they may have only had X number of chipsets, cameras, BT, GPS, and so on, ready.

after only a couple days, ship date on black is already two weeks into July?

Im sure they have backordered over a million phones right now. Even if they have another 400,000 when you think about the ridiculous demand for this thing plus the number of stores its being sold at its just not going to be enough, more than a million people clearly want this thing. I really feel for those countries that are getting it late because they are getting screwed. Theres just not going to be enough.
