Hi i

Im from Germany and a friend of mine is going to visit the USA next week.
I wanted him to buy me a MacBook Pro 17 inch with a 2.6 intel processor. But Im always thinking about it if it is worth the price.

I could get a alienware notebook with same specs but an geforce 8800 gtx instead of apples geforce 8600.

So why should I buy a MacBook? Only because its looking nice?

Please help me with my decision.

Andre

I agree: the main reason for buying a macbook pro or any Apple laptop is the operating system and integration with the hardware. If you don't care about the OS, there are tons of cheaper options that are equally powerful. Having said that, I think that Apple laptops are among the nicest and most feature-complete ones around -not necessarily with the most powerful graphics cards etc, but with best OVERALL feature set.

OS X is the number one reason for most people to buy a Mac. It's the way it works, the software that comes with it, AND the hardware.

I would say try to get some hands on time with OS X and then make your decision from there...
