why update to 5.1.1?

Bug fixes and supposedly better battery life (but they say that after every iOS update). I think most people are updating in order to do a FRESH Jailbreak....kinda like washing your underwear after wearing it for several months.

The only reason to not go ahead and upgrade and jailbreak would be if you use apps that don't work with 5.1.1. The only one I know of at the moment that requires 5.0.1 is Spire. Other than that, why not upgrade? If nothing else, you get the battery life improvement and the ability to delete from PhotoStream (if you use it).

Well there have been tethered jailbreaks out for 5.1 and 5.1.1 for a long time so I wouldn't expect to see too many things that still aren't supported.
I think the OS's are mostly similar. Spire is pretty OS-tight because of all the Siri functionality that I think any tiny change to iOS itself screwed up the tweak. Still waiting to hear from chpwn about whether he will continue to develop it or not.
