Hi, I have a M2 Mini and Magic Keyboard with Touch. It looks like when the computer is turned on the first time, I have to key in the password to login. Subsequently, I can just use the touch button on the keyboard. Why we cannot use the touch button on the keyboard at the initial login?

Same as the phone, which doesn't allow FaceID after a reboot until it's been unlocked once.

The biometrics (facial scan, fingerprint) are in something called, I think, the Secure Enclave that is locked. Only way to unlock it is with a PIN/password, but once it's unlocked it stays that way until the next reboot.

This is also why the phones won't connect to WiFi until they've been unlocked at least once after a boot. The WiFi passwords are stored in the same place.
