I am trying to sell my mid 2012 MBP 13" non retina i5, 4gb, 500gb with 2yr apple care remaining for £750 on gumtree / £850 on eBay (to cover final value fee)

I've had 3 people on gumtree fail to turn up and nobody has messaged me on eBay.

The item is immaculate and comes boxed - the current model is still £999 plus £200 for apple care.

Am I asking too much????

Ive found its hard selling things atm on ebay and Gumtree... People seem to only buy if it is at a bargain price.

My car has been on ebay and Gumtree for months and little interest even with my car being desirable and a few grand cheaper than the others.

Good luck with the sale.

Try selling within your own network. I've sold a 2007 MBP and 2010 iMac to friends of friends in the past week.

My recent experiences of Gumtree were similar to yours. Lots of people called or emailed, but few followed through. There's very little barrier to entry on Gumtree and subsequently everyone wants something for nothing without having the impetus to buy.

Try your local for sale Facebook pages, i have a Apple only for sale page near me... Theres a lot of chancers though thinking they can get one at a bargain price.

You may find a buyer though.

Price is way too high.

Fair enough it cost you £1.2k but Applecare isn't worth £200 for second-hand buyers.

Not to mention it costs £860 new with free Applecare from the Educational store.
I'd hope for somewhere between £650-750 on eBay.

I would happily accept £750 on ebay but i'd lose £100 in fees!

Amazon might be an option to look at. They take 10% final value fee. Just be careful of scammers (more common on Amazon than eBay I find).

Might also be worth taking it to Entertainment Exchange. My friend got £500 for his 2009 MBP 15" with American Keyboard layout

That's the price to pay for such a big market exposure. I sold a faulty Mac this week and only half an hour after putting it up, I had 3 offers - one of which I accepted as it was extremely generous. Ask for bank transfer to cut PayPal fees?

Agree eBay fees are really high, but not much you can do about it - hard to trust a laptop you can buy off Gumtree as there's no buyer protection either.

This. I wouldn't pay more than $750 max for that (assuming it is in mint condition with minimal battery usage).

Wow 850 is a lot. I bought that computer brand new year and a half ago for less and I received a free Apple gift card.
