I have never drop my iPad and it’s very slippery, at least the back. And I take it by one hand from room to room many times a day. I actually don’t have a phone (no need, I am retired, no family, but I plan to buy an iPhone 12 mainly for the cameras). I don’t understand why so much people complained of dropping their iPhones like there is no tomorrow... I also have a small Sony recorder. Never dropped it. It seems to me that tou can have a very solid grip with the iPhone compare to a one handed iPad...

You remind me of someone who’s overconfident in their driving abilities because they have “never been in a wreck and have been driving xyz years”...

Your past experience of not dropping a phone has f*** all to do with the next instance of handling your phone. It only takes once. And believe me, if/when it happens, your perspective will change.

This kind of post needs some context... how old is OP? Because teenagers tend to think like this. It’s easy to be mean to someone asking this type of question, but maybe the OP just needs to learn more about how the world works.

Your life experience will be different than everyone else. The world is bigger than your bubble. Anecdotal evidence like this is useless and pointless to start a debate over.

There are all kinds of reasons why devices get dropped. What do you want? An endless list of possibilities?

Same here. I have never dropped the iPhone since the original. I am 34 BTW. I always make sure I have a firm grasp of it before it leaves my pocket. I never have used a case.

"Accidents happen"

This is a totally pointless thread. Bully for you for not dropping your phone.

Yet.

I normally never drop anything ever. It is a very rare occurrence for me to drop anything.
When I got my new iPhone 6 Plus many years ago, I dropped that thing more times than I can remember. It was ridiculous. It was always slipping out of my hand. That iPhone with its brushed aluminum surface and oleophobic coating and rounded edges is more slippery than a bar of soap. My conclusion was it was BY FAR the most slippery dry thing ever created by mankind.
Luckily the times I dropped it I was over carpet - and I soon got a Loopy case to keep the Bar-O-Soap in my hand.

« ... pointless to start a debate over »

And yet you answered ... a pointless debate.

Never once dropped or broke a device or even cook/dishware until I dropped my iPhone 6 twice in a month a few years ago.

Prior to that, I'd never dropped a dish, a plate, a bowl...nothing but some spilled food and maybe a glass spilled on a table. And I worked in restaurants.

Yet I dropped my iPhone 6 twice in a month.

Crazy, I tell you. Crazy.

More often than not it’s never just slips out your hands anything can cause you to drop your phone...

Then you have something to look forward to? Your 1st drop.

A wise man once said, an object at rest stays at rest & an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed & the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.

A person’s coordination can change as they age or become afflicted with illness. Except for a freak accident with a wallet case fumble, I never dropped my phones or tablets either, until I one day started having coordination problems to the level I could no longer shrug these things off as an isolated accident. It all crept up on me and it’s probably (I hope) just an extension of my migraine condition.

And it’s been amplified since recovering from a suspected case of Covid-19. I didn’t have too many respiratory symptoms, but I had just about everything else a lot of people complained about with this crazy virus.

I have switched from an 11 Pro to an iPhone SE2 until I can go through all the necessary steps to get diagnosed and treated for whatever this all is.

I can grip and handle the SE very well. And I am really grateful this phone is an option for me and grateful to my family for getting it for me even though I already have a gorgeous 11Pro. I just didn’t want to drop such an expensive to repair phone one more time and have it break. I’ve been lucky so far. I would rather it stay in great shape and get passed to a family member than have that happen. For now the 11 Pro is usually on my nightstand. I’m still hoping I’ll get better in time to put it back in active duty at least for vacations. I’ve been working out and kind of making up a sort of physical therapy routine to help me get used to moving around again. I had to take it really easy and careful the last couple of months. But I’m doing well and active now.

The thing about the SE is I can have it in a thick protective case and it’s so small that even with the case on it is not much heavier than my 11Pro without a case. When cased, even my 11 Pro is a brick.

People are not machines. Even the most blessed among us don’t stay in the same state of graceful perfection through every age and stage of life. 💩 happens. That’s why we have cases and screen protectors.

Here's how accidents happen...on my first Iphone (4S) i got a case (Case Crown) and had the phone in its case it in my pocket. Except the screen side was facing out in my pocket. Accidently bumped the corner back fender of my car. Result: 2 week old iPhone with cracked screen. Future action: Phone always in pocket with case-covered back facing out.
