I've just been given an iPhone 4S running iOS 8.4.1 by a good friend to replace my aging Motorola Razr3.
As I'm a novice, I would like to know the following:
1. If I am connected to a wi-fi, (and I have checked this), does any internet activity go through this, and not the telephone service provider. Obviously if I exceed data allowances with my provider, then I will be stung very badly.
2. Is there an app that I can download for the iPhone that will tell me how much data I have used since a date which I can enter on the app ?
3. Does the iPhone automatically connect to a known password protected wi-fi automatically without alerting me ? Or do I need to do this manually each time. I notice that I didn't need to enter the password recently, so assume it stores this info somewhere.
Question number 2 is quite relevant, as I will be using this phone overseas with One-Sim and do not want to be charged for too much data.
4. Lastly, and this may seem silly, but when I hit the button at the bottom of the screen to return to the menu, I assume it exits and (closes) the last application it was in and does't keep this running in the background.
Thank you in advance,
Grahame
