Does the Touch connect to unencrypted networks automatically?

Does the Touch connect to unencrypted networks automatically?

It automatically brings up all signals in the area, whether they are available or not. Some show up locked. I was able to get instant access sitting in my car in front on a Subway. Then down a residential street i got a signal. It was fun... my girlfriend was holding it and said "i got a signal", we pulled over and looked up something. It's cool. I think it works great and sure beats paying AT & T a monthly fee.
