Hi, as the title says.. I have OSX 10.9.5 on a late 2013 iMac - I am writing this post on it right now, which obviously means I have an internet connection, I have even run a speedtest at speedtest.net and all appears to be normal.
Under Network in System Preferences, there is a green light next to WiFi in connection options and everything seems to be normal and operational.

So then why are all 4 bars in the Wi-Fi symbol in the Menu Bar empty?

I think it is a bug in 10.9.5. I see the exact same thing occasionally on my Retina MBP. A reboot fixes it, but it does not seem to hurt anything if I just ignore it.

Ah well, I just deleted it as a service in Network under Sys Prefs and then reinstated it. Seems to have done the job.
