I use the Airport Extreme for my Macbook Pro, Macbook Air, and iPhone.
Love it.

Yesterday I tried to go online with my old Dell laptop, but it would not connect to the network. In the past I've used my Dell wirelessly (like in hotels) and it worked fine.

Is the Airport Extreme Wi-Fi signal and configuration exclusively for Apple puters & devices only?

No but it's possible that your old Dell doesn't support the newer wireless standards. My parents had an old Compaq that couldn't connect to a WPA encrypted network, so I had to convince them it was time to retire it.

Are you by any chance using the 5GHZ band?

Not sure ..?

It's a 2002 Inspiron. Strong book, runs well. I guess I'll just have to connect via my Ethernet cable.

Thanks.
