Did some tests earlier today, and got quite consistent results on a number of different test servers. Here are some samples that paint the picture very well:
iPhone 4S @2.4GHz:
iPhone 5 @2.4GHz, note the drop in download and the huge boost to upload, the trend was reliable over 10 attempts:
iPhone 5 @5GHz, note the all-around boost to Wi-Fi speed:
p.s. I have a FIOS connection @75 down/35 up that reliably and consistently deliveres 80 down/45 up.
