iPod touch Wi-Fi screwing up.

Ok so I keep trying to get on the internet on my iPod touch at home.
It receives my network, and asks for the password. I typed it in, and it isn't able to connect.
What is it asking for that it considers a password???
Is it asking for a number?
This also happened at a friends house. I am sure I am typing in everything correctly.
