I really need this plugin... it makes the mail app soooo much better, its beyond me why Apple do not allow us the option to set out how we want the mail app to look like....

Does anyone know an alternative plugin I can try to get this sort of feature back? reading mail the default way in mail app is frustrating

Ah thanks man, I will check this out and see how it goes. Appreciate it!

Edit: Doh looks like thats not working either... darn it.

Letterbox needs updating for 10.6.4... which should be done in a few hours according to another thread here.

Widemail workaround

Found a workaround to get Widemail working in 10.6.4

Go to ~/Library/Mail/Bundles/

open Contents/Info.plist in a text editor Or Property List Editor

Underneath the SupportedPluginCompatibilityUUIDs key, add the following strings:

E71BD599-351A-42C5-9B63-EA5C47F7CE8E (Item 6)

and

B842F7D0-4D81-4DDF-A672-129CA5B32D57 (Item 7)

Save, restart Mail.app

timg - long may your Mail app run without crashing

Found a workaround to get Widemail working in 10.6.4

timg,

You sir are a scholar and a gentleman & the single reason I just joined this forum - to say a major thank you!
A very easy work around - life without Widemail is no life at all!

The only thing I'd add for neophytes (such as myself) when making this modification, is that the Item numbers may vary. For me I added 7 & 8 (I already had an item 6) - I presume it depends what other plugins you have in Mail.
I used Pref Setter (freeware) to open the plist, added a new key via the gear and copy-pasted timg's good ju ju into the Value column. Hit save. Done.

Many thanks again timg!

That doesnt work for me :S Maybe I am not doing it right. Could anyone upload there info.plist file please?

Widemail Plist edit help needed

I too need some advice on how to do this.

This is my current info.plist details:

<key>SupportedPluginCompatibilityUUIDs</key>
<array>
<string>2610F061-32C6-4C6B-B90A-7A3102F9B9C8</string>
<string>99BB3782-6C16-4C6F-B910-25ED1C1CB38B</string>
<string>225E0A48-2CDB-44A6-8D99-A9BB8AF6BA04</string>
<string>B3F3FC72-315D-4323-BE85-7AB76090224D</string>
<string>2F0CF6F9-35BA-4812-9CB2-155C0FDB9B0F</string>
<string>0CB5F2A0-A173-4809-86E3-9317261F1745</string>
</array>
</dict>
</plist>

Per the directions here, should it be modified like this?

<key>SupportedPluginCompatibilityUUIDs</key>
<array>
<string>2610F061-32C6-4C6B-B90A-7A3102F9B9C8</string>

Widemail mod

As I mentioned it worked fine for me - so all I can offer is some clarification, I hope it helps.

Obviously Quit Mail.
Download Pref Setter App: http://www.nightproductions.net/prefsetter.html
Open the plist that timg specifies with Pref Setter.

Click on the gear symbol (top left) and choose "add new key" or choose that option from Actions in the menu.
copy-paste in timg's new strings. I found I had to slightly edit the way it pasted the strings to ensure they saved in the same manner as the ones already there ie using keyboard arrows to move the cursor and backspace to reposition the string. Save the new plist.

I opened Mail and all was well.
Good luck.

THANKS!

Got that to work - but now WideMail only works in one row - not the two rows it used to. Any ideas?

I realized the "Widemail View" option in the view columns is no longer there as an option. Gave up and switched to Letterbox. That seems to be working well.

Forget Widemail - Letterbox worked great!

It took me less than a minute to fix this problem after seeing the post from shulzmc (thanks!). I did a quick search for Letterbox, found this link: http://harnly.net/category/software/letterbox/ and downloaded the file, opened it, clicked where it said "click here", restarted Mail and I'm back up and running just like Widemail.

It was so smooth and simple that I have to recommend Letterbox as well!!
:)
