Hi everyone,

I have a 5G iPod, with a lot of video on it.

If I set it to widescreen off, in the video settings, when I'm watching, say an episode of Prison Break from iTunes, does it prevent me from seeing part of the picture? If I turn widescreen on, is it better for watching movies downloaded off the iTunes Store, or is it fine with widescreen off?

Thanks in advance for any help:)

It does affect the iPod screen.

So say you have a video that is in widescreen, with the widescreen turned on, it will put bars on top and bottom of the movie, showing the movie in it's entirerty. With widescreen turned off, the iPod will fill the screen with the movie, but will cut off the edges of the movie.

This is not as good as a movie that is formatted with Pan and Scan for standard tv viewing as they may move the 4:3 box around the image to show where is important. With the iPod, it would always just stay in the middle of the movie screen, so if someone is talking on the sides, it will be cut off.

I personally leave my iPod with widescreen turned on to avoid this problem.

If the video is encoded for the iPod screen (for example, 320x180), what happens?
Does it only affect it if the resolution exceeds the screen?

It'll just zoom the 320x180 video.

Thanks for the help:)

If I'm watching an episode of Prison Break from the iTunes Store, should I leave widescreen on or off? Will parts of the picture be cut off if I turn widescreen off?

Thanks!:)

Try it out, turning it off and on is not going to hurt the video of anything.
