Silly widget positioning - I have my dock on the left of my screen. Now widgets have migrated to the desktop, their positioning underlies the dock. Basically, Apple have not accounted for a dock-on-left, they should have moved widgets across to the right by width of the dock.

I put mine centred on the display (I also have my dock along the left-side edge).

If I put one on the left, it goes under the dock by about 2mm, which of course looks awful.

Worse, the Liquid Glass stupidity sends the colour of the widget right through the dock to the other side and hence there's a thin white outline (my widget is mainly white) on the left of my dock, which looks even more awful.

Should have added a screenshot to my post - it does look terrible.

You can put the widgets anywhere; they don't snap to a defined grid like they do in iOS/iPadOS. If you move a widget near another widget, then macOS will suggest a position and snap them so that they are aligned. If you don't want them to snap and be aligned, then hold Command while dragging them.

To solve your problem, move all your widgets away from the left side of the screen. Drag one of them back over to where you want it, and then move all the rest over.

Here's an example where I arranged them while holding Command.

BTW, you can still put widgets in the Notification Center, if that's where you prefer they live.

They do snap! If I try to place one where your Chicago one is, it snaps left. If I move it a bit to the right of that, it snaps right.

Maybe there is a "Snap to grid" option I haven't yet found?

Yes, they snap if you have other widgets nearby. Do you have one nearby that's causing it to snap? If there are no widgets nearby, you can put the widget wherever you want. Clear out the area and place your first widget, then move the others back. I'm not aware of any "snap to grid" option that applies to widgets.

Notice when I place my first widget, there is no outline displaying for it to snap into. If it's still snapping for you, try holding down the Command key while you place the first widget.

Ah! I see. I had just seen the widgets move during update, then tried to rearrange. And got stuck because the all appeared at the extreme left and - as you explain - moving one of them snapped back to one of the others.

Just moved all to the right side, then moved one back to the left. And I could put it anywhere. Then a second snapped to align with the position of the first.

My complaint then drops to being unhappy at the automatic migration and my failure to understand the snap/no snap properties.

Much appreciated.
