Wierd MacBook Error

Well after not even a week of using my Macbook, I got cursed with one wierd error. After I turn on the notebook, I get this screen below. Can't do anything else. Three bands of gradients. Any solutions?

Reset the PRAM? Whatever that actually does is beyond me but its talked about here often.

id say reset the pram, it works with the mosaic going downwards, so why not across?

This happened to me when I first got my MBP. I installed new ram from my gf's MB and this happened. I made sure that the ram was installed correctly and reset the pram.
