I believe that my wife is cheating on me while i am away in camp, when I get home the history is all deleted from the computer. She says she doesn't want me nit-picking on her purchases, but I know something is up with a fellow from her work.

Can someone help me retrieve the history on our home computer without her knowing I have set it up to keep the info??

We run a new iMac, and she usually uses chrome, but we also have safari which I havent checked and probably should.

Please help, I am desperate to know.

I'm a Sr. Linux admin/security so don't know much about macs... Just got one at work & trying to figure my way around is only reason I'm here. But as both security & sysadmin I can help... You could either install some spyware... (some easier to catch than others not sure if any free for macs either) or you could set a cronjob to copy the information to a separate location every minute for browsing later. (if you need help learning how to set that up I can help there too)

But basically you could set up a cronjob (scheduled task) to run every minute that would sync the chrome info to another location, so even when she clears it you would have a copy.

It would look something like

rsync -avzh "/Users/usershesloggedinas/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default" /locationyouwanttobackupto

The history file is in the folder named Default & is named History. Its an SQLite file so you'll need a 3rd party application to read it easily unless you know SQL well. But there are free ones out there...

**EDIT
Didn't think about the fact the way I set it right there would overwrite files with changes... as it keeps them synced to be the same. I could give you a command that would create a copy of the file every X minutes but then you'd have to find the right file... But it's up to you. I can help you with it if you like.

I'm surprised she doesn't use Incognito then she wouldn't have to clear history.

She may just be trying to find you the perfect gift for Christmas without you finding out.

Talk to her. That is the solution.

If you are concerned about her cheating and hiding it, chances are good that deleting browser history is the least of your issues. You need to sit down and talk to her about it and not in an accusatory tone.
