so as the title states, I'm not eligible. so if she is can i get the new iPhone under her number (family plan) then move it over to my number? has anyone done this? what is needed to be done if so?

I would guess as long as you have the right data plan just put your sim in the phone your wife buys

If you're on a GSM carrier (AT&T in the US, and pretty much all of them in Europe) then all you have to do is switch your sim card with hers. If you have Verizon, then you need to log into your account online/call them and switch the numbers like that.
