WiFi /3G not switching

Hi I am in UK, but was in Italy over the weekend. I had switched off Data Roaming. In my Hotel and at other places, I noticed that I picked up different WiFi signals, and although the OS settings said I was connected, I couldn;t send or receive anything. I have WiFiTrak installed and I had to use that to actually get the phone to connect properly.

I have never noticed this problem in the UK.

Also, When I switched Data Roaming back on, I had to switch WiFi off, before I could get the 3G signal to work properly.

Just wondering what was going ion and won dering if anyone else had seen the same symptons?
