Greetings,
I've encountered this problem already, I was just curious if there is yet a solution.
Problem:
iPhone 3GS 8GB With serial number 89140xxxxxx just received from Apple as a replacement for my broken phone I turned in under warranty.
I successfully downgraded it to 4.1 and was intending to unlock the phone by using redsnow and the iPad baseband, but consequently, after booting through, it shows that the phone is always searching, regardless of whether or not a put a simcard in. In addition, both the Wifi and Bluetooth are greyed out.

Solution
A) Is the damage reversible?
B) Is there a different path I can take on a phone with a similar serial number in order to unlock it, not one that has already been quasi-bricked and greyed out...
Any help is greatly appreciated
