WiFi/Bootcamp Issues

I have had two separate issues that have been "remedied" by the same action.
Issue 1: Unable to load Windows 8 onto the partitioned drive.
Issue 2: Unable to connect to my local wifi network.

Both issues are remedied by disconnecting my thunderbolt connected back up drive. I am not smart enough to explain any of it I just know the "cause and effect" part of the issues.

Hope this helps someone else.

I am using a late 2013 rMBP with Yosemite 10.10.
