Hi,

Suddenly all iOS6 devices could not login on our wifi routers.
The iDevice was directed to a login page at apple.com
And a page not found error (a success page) was given.

Why ?????

Then, suddenly, it was fixed...
Probably they created that success page....

But why login ?
For what ?

Anyone can explain this ?
Apple ?

Why this happens: when you connect to a public WiFi router (say, at Starbucks) the router is set up to prevent you from reaching the public Internet before you get redirected to go through their gateway and login/accept terms of service.

The way iOS devices check on whether they need to pop up the "Login" sheet is by testing to see if they can reach a specific URL on Apple servers: http://www.apple.com/library/test/success.html

This whole bug was caused by that URL on Apple's servers going down, so your iDevice thought it needed to make you login to get on the public Internet. And then of course this wasn't actually the case, so when you closed the login sheet, iOS assumed you didn't want to connect to the WiFi network (since it appeared as though the public Internet was inaccessible) and disconnected from it automatically (to try connecting to the next preferred network, if available).

Obviously, to prevent this in the future there should be more than one URL to test to determine if public Internet connectivity actually exists.
