iPod touch Wifi connection issues

I have a time machine airport extreme and another airport extreme bridged on a different computer. The wifi network works very well with the computers and two iPads but I have a very hard time getting a good connection with our four iPod touches and two iPhones. I get an unable to join message or just very slow connection. When I test the speed on my ipad it is great. Do I need to change a setting somewhere? Any ideas? It's driving me crazy. Any info would help. Thank you
