Wifi connection (not transfer) speed for AT&T LTE iPad

Say you returned home or office and now in the vicinity of your registered wifi network. How quickly does the new iPad connects to the wifi (automatically)? It seems awfully slow on my AT&T LTE iPad. Certainly much slower than the iPhone 4S (5.0.1 AT&T).

Any similar experience?
 
It's automatic for me almost instant, but if you don't like the speed you can connect manually in the setting > wifi area.
