Using Leopard 10.5.1 with a Core Duo MacBook (1,1). Router is a BT Home Hub.
 
BT home hubs are notoriously crappy BUT are you running torrents, perchance? Sometimes all the incoming/outgoing stuff jams things up.

No torrents. But others using the same connection are playing online games.
