Wifi-Edge Question

I'm on Vodaphone India - jailbroken 3G iphone

Just activated the data plan. Question is:

If I have my wifi ON - when I'm at home/office and connected to wifi - will the phone use the wifi to access the net/data or will it continue to use the data plan?

If you're connected to a WiFi network WITH internet connection, that's the connection it will use for data, not EDGE.

Yes connected to wifi WITH internet connection. So it uses that and only when WIFI is not in range the phone switches to edge?

Correct. If you are concerned about data usage, you can switch into "airplane mode," and then enable wifi. This will disable the cellular antenna, while still allowing you to use WiFi data. Of course, you wouldn't be able to receive calls or texts during this time, which I recognize might be a problem.
