Would anyone know how my WiFi iPad 2 can pinpoint my approximate location without the help of a cellular connection? Is it doing so via my hotspot's SSID and IP address?
I find it odd as my hotspot is just connected via fiber.

IDK if they are using SSIDs, since they are hardly unique. I think they're keying off of the MAC address of the WiFi router. They use data which has been gathered by other users.
Why do you think that a hotspot connected to fiber couldn't be geolocated?
