Hi All,

My daughter and I are having wifi connection issues since upgrading to Monterey.

Hardware
I have the MBP pro 2021 (latest model)
She has M1 MBA
Both our iPads and iPhones are still connected to the wifi.

The wifi is an Orbi mesh system.

But the Macs have dropped off. In the Network settings it says this "Wi-Fi has the self-assigned IP address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (I removed the numbers for the post) and will not be able to connect to the internet"

can anyone help please?

Update. it has just happened again. this is the third time in a day and then it comes back on.

I also have the Orbi system. Have you looked to see if there is a firmware update for the Orbi? I've got a bunch of new and old Apple products. The only Wifi issue I'm seeing is with an old Apple TV device.

Let us know how it goes with your issue.

thanks. Just checked and there are no updates to firmware, I did discover 2 of the 5 satellites were offline though. Shouldn't cause the issue I am having but have rebooted them anyway and will report back. Like I said 2 iPads, 3 iPhones are not having this issue. we have 5 Alexa devices around the house, all of them stay online, It is just the 2 Macs.

Is your internet provider using a cable modem or FIOS modem? I have Orbi 750 and had numerous problems with cable modem. Same problems as you at that time. We switched to FIOS and our problems went away.

i am with Bt Internet in the Uk which is not cable. My modem a tplink one. No issues like this before Monterey. Like I say it is only the macs this is happening to.

Can you call tech support at Bt? Ask them to test your internet and also ask them about the settings on Orbi and mac.

I’m having issues also…can’t seem to narrow it down thoug, sounds similar to your issues.

what would they be testing for? iMac on big sur running perfectly, 2 iPads 3 iPhones, 5 Alexa devices, 3 LG smart TVs, 1 peloton, one PC all working no issues. 2 MacBooks 1 that was running big sur with no issue, both now on Monterey and having the intermittent issue described. happy to call BT but the internet is clearly working..

As a retired telecom tech in NY, they would check if it's a copper line. As an example- ohms loss from CO to customer prem. They can calculate in feet/meters where (pinpoint) exactly where the trouble is. They would also check for signal degrade, noise, jitter, and what we call a swinging open. If it all checks out ok, ask what settings Orbi needs to work correctly on their system.
If it's glass fiber, they can test it also using a different methodology.

Did you check for any firmware updates on Orbi and install them?

Lastly, if everything is good to go, then look at your wifi settings on Mac. Delete wifi login reboot and look for your wifi signal again and log in. Test it to see if it drops again. If it does, then call Apple tech support for help and answers to your questions. Good luck. R.

Almost every morning or when I haven't used my MBP for a while it takes a while to connect to WiFi. Sometimes I have to disconnect then reconnect to WiFi then it works fine until don't use it again for a few hours. Never did this before Monterey.
 
I read somewhere to change IPV6 from "Automatic" to "link-local only" in TCP/IP settings of the Wifi advanced settings. It worked for me.
