I have a macbook pro, running MacOS High Sierra vers 10.13.6

It will no longer connect to my home wifi. Any quick solutions please?

I should add, I can connect to my wifi on my ipad and iphone.

Is your MBP a 2018 model with the T2 chip? (The early 2018s came with High Sierra.)

Oh ... (just to let you know, the 2016 MBP has the T1 chip, not the T2 chip -- the T2 MBPs have flaky WiFi, but not the T1 MBPs).

Are you running Little Snitch, by chance? If so, you may have a firewall rule that has eliminated access to your router.

Is your bluetooth working? Can you AirDrop from your iPhone to your MBP? (AirDrop uses WiFi, so if this works then your WiFi hardware is working.)

When you open the System Preferences Network pane, click on the "Wi-Fi" in the left column. What is the Status? Click on "Turn Wi-Fi Off" and then click on "Turn Wi-Fi On". Now what is the Status? Is the Network Name correct? Is the "Automatically join this network" checked?

And lastly, access your WiFi router and make sure that you haven't restricted access to you MBP.

You might also take your MBP to your local McDonald's or Starbuck's and see if you can connect to their WiFi's.

Good luck,
Solouki

Thanks for replying. My laptop airdrops ok. I’ll take it to a public wifi later and get back to you.

It’s strange that I can Skype, receive emails, transfer stuff via airdrop. But not access iTunes Store, App Store, nor the internet on my browsers, chrome and safari.

This may indicate that you have an issue with your DNS.

One way to check this is to try to ping a web address in terminal both by URL and by IP address, like this

(1)
mats@Mats-MBP-2 ~ % ping google.com
PING google.com (172.217.20.46): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 172.217.20.46: icmp_seq=0 ttl=53 time=16.807 ms
...

(2)
mats@Mats-MBP-2 ~ % ping 172.217.20.46
PING 172.217.20.46 (172.217.20.46): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 172.217.20.46: icmp_seq=0 ttl=53 time=25.543 ms

If you have a DNS problem the IP address will work (2) but the URL (1) will not.

Something to try:
POWER OFF your modem/router, then power it back up.

I have rebooted the modem/router. Its still hit and miss, I can be on the internet browsing, then it suddenly drops the connection.

These two statement that you have made cannot at the same time be true. Skype and email require a network connection. So if Skype and email is working, what is not working?

It will no longer connect to my home wifi. Any quick solutions please?
It’s strange that I can Skype, receive emails, transfer stuff via airdrop. But not access iTunes Store, App Store, nor the internet on my browsers, chrome and safari.

A systematic approach is highly recommended:
#1. Verify that you have a network connection, green light for WiFi in settings network, 3 - 4 bars on the WiFi icon.
#2. Verify that you can reach the internet, by using the ping command in Terminal, I already suggested you try: ping 172.217.20.46 at th terminal prompt
#3. Do the same thing with a URL, I suggested: ping google.com you should get response in a few millisecond

Common issues:
  • WiFi shows 1 - 2 bars, probably the low signal strength will lead to WiFi not working or working very poorly, could be a question of distance to AP or thick walls or interference
  • WiFi shown with orange light in Setting > Network, the public internet can not be reached, a problem with your router or possible (but less likely) your ISP
  • Cannot ping a public IP address (#2 above), basically the same as previous bullet point, WiFi is working, the problem is that no connection or route exist to the intranet
  • If #1 and #2 above are OK but #3 fail, you have a problem with name server settings. This is most typically a misconfiguration of your router
If you can pinpoint the issue you are more likely to get help in solving the problem.

If Skype and Mail are working #1 and #2 must be OK.
