Has anyone posted an idiots guide on how this works? If so could you direct an idiot to it?

If I put the phone on airplane mode the watch appears to have no connectivity at all - there is no way topair it to a network asfar as I can see.

So what and how is this wifi connectivity all about?

Wi-Fi on your iPhone needs to remain on, you turned it off by enabling Airplane Mode. Try disabling only Bluetooth on your iPhone then try to getting a phone call on your Watch when you are on your home Wi-Fi.

yes

that will do it.

the watch will assume any wifi protocol and credentials that the phone has (although 5 ghz doesn't work and LONG WPA2 key lengths don't either),,

then turn off bt on the phone, and it will connect to the wifi. It is MUCH faster (as expected) but I am sure it would use much more power.
