wifi problem

I use my iMac to transmit a wifi signal in my home to my macbook, palm pilot, etc. All of my browsers work fine, however, I noticed that neither joost or iChat work on my Macbook when I'm at home. If I go to a local coffee shop, both programs work without a problem. Any ideas why this is?
