Hello,
I don't think I'm getting the best out of my current wifi setup at home. I have a fiberoptic line (it's advertised as gigabit). I have a PC connected directly to the router and the speed is very fast on it.
I was told that I have to use the provider's router. So, my setup is this...
I have one Airport Express plugged into the router. I've configured it was the main one. I also have another Airport Express plugged in downstairs (not very far, because our two-story house is very small). Both are on the network and green. However the speed does not seem that fast. I have a PowerBook G4, 1.33 ghz and and iPod Touch that I use on the network too. I think it should be faster. I did Speedtest.net checks and my PC gets around 90mb/s and the laptop gets 2mb/s.
The thing is that sometimes the signal degrades and the laptop will get .5 mb/s or less. I found that I have to unplug the main Airport Express and the speed gets better (not great, but better).
Also to note, I believe one of my Expresses is "G" and one is "N". Would this cause a problem? I would think with this that the wifi signal would be "G", but even on "G" I think it should be faster because I have a gigabit line.
So, I suppose my question then is, would it make sense for me to purchase an Airport Extreme router to connect to my provider's router and then just use the "N" Express and take the "G" off the network?
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide..
