Just noticed that I drop one bar when holding the phone horizontally (landscape mode). Any explanations? This doesn't happen in portrait mode no matter how I hold the phone.

I believe all antennae have a position (usually either mounted vertically or horizontally) that they perform best in. Nothing you can do about it.
