Wifi slow when laptop is closed

I noticed that while I was running my Macbook in clamshell mode and my WiFi was enabled, my internet speed was a little slow. Then I opened my laptop and all of a sudden, my download speed went right up. Anyone know why?

I haven't personally experienced this myself. But i beleive the Airport Antennae is at the top of the screen, so when its closed, it won't have the best reception...

Well my router is literally a foot away from my laptop, so I don't think reception is the issue? It is pretty odd though.
Also, you should try it. Maybe it's just mine?

you are changing the orientation of the antennae when you move the lid to clamshell mode. It is a reception issue. Try moving the router so that it's antennae are in the relative same position when in clamshell mode to see if it resolves this issue.
