Hello everyone.

I'm trying to sync only my music playlists between my iPad (and iPhone) with my Mac M2
Whenever I select the playlists in the music tab and hit "Sync" - it always wants to do a backup (and does start this process)

How do I just sync the music without doing a backup each time?

Thanks

The process may be rigid and you have to let it walk through the steps. I can't recall an option to skip the backup. I think I recall an option to either backup to the Mac OR backup to iCloud but I don't think there is a complete "skip" option.

I just connected mine to see the choices and it IS either "to this Mac" or "to iCloud", no skip. So the probable answer is let it backup "to this Mac" to then do your music playlist sync and if you don't want to retain the backup (and the space it eats) when it is finished, click the Manage Backups button, select the backup and click "Delete Backup."

Or, if you have the iCloud space, let it back up to iCloud and then in subsequent steps it will sync the music playlists, etc.

I skip backups all the time. On the first tab in the finder window showing your iPad details, just to the right of the long progress bar, there should be a button to “Skip Backup.” You might have to hit it a couple of times, and might have to hit it again after being prompted to enter your passcode on the iPad.
