iPod touch Wifi use-age when on standby

I just got my ipod touch gen5. I am tech challenged.
When my ipod is on standby is it using wifi. The reason I as is that we have Wild Blue satellite internet with fap. I could just turn of the wifi on the pod and have done that but I am sure one of you tech whizzes will know this answer.

Depends on what apps you have installed and what push notifications you have enabled. I get where you are coming from as my mom has the same issues with wild blue. My advice when at home unless you need to use the internet on the iPod is to turn it off so you don't hit your monthly cap.

No problem it kind of sucks my mom can't get any DSL or cable internet so she uses wild blue but the cap on it is horrible. And the speeds are so slow. She can't even use YouTube or Netflix in fear of going over the cap. She is so fed up she might cancel soon. First world problem I guess lol.
