Will 3G iPhones fit on the current iPhone Docs?

I read on one of the Mac News sites that they might not because of their rounded nature. Not sure though...:confused:
 
My guess, and that's all it is.....a guess, is that it wouldn't.
Didn't they have a new dock for the 3G on their website?
 
The only thing I THINK might prevent it from fitting is if it doesn't fit a greater width, the thinner bottom will fit in the dock and should be supported sufficiently by the docking metal connector. possibly. not sure, but I'm hoping it fits with my old one.

unless the new one is thicker it should fit just fine.
 
Unless I missed something, the new iPhone is wider than the old iPhone. That explains why the screen is the same size but the black border around the screen is thicker on the sides.

EDIT: the 2G iPhone is 61mm wide, the 3G iPhone is 62.1mm wide.

Guess they are trying to be like other phone companies, by not even offering a dock this time. (kind of like ATT charging $30 for data). Times are a changin'.

I always loved having my phone in a dock just in case of a water spill or something. I HATE lying my phone flat on the desk while charging/listening to etc. Prol an O.C.D. thing. I like seeing the front of the phone when songs are on or a call comes in. Guess its gonna cost me this time. I think one of my after market charger/stands, that has a variety of inserts, may work.
Hopefully the charger plug is the same.

no it won't,if u go to apples website you can see that this phone dosent give you a dock and they have it for sale separate 49.00 and when you look at it it is shaped way different just for the 3g iPhone......its just like apple every new version of whatever they give you less and less....... Remeber when iPods used to come with that little sock or cover for the iPod? It was either white or black now if you buy a 80gb classic u get nothing

But just like everything els I will cough up another 49.00 for this new dock
 
Thats pretty crap. So what about my dock that comes with my Apple Bluetooth headset built in and I paid £79.99 for? Surely I don't have to buy another dock.:(
