iPod will a 3rd gen shuffle charger work with a 2nd gen shuffle?

I broke my 2nd generation iPod shuffle charger/dock. Stepped on it, error message showed up on screen saying my usb device is drawing to much power.

Anyway, it will not work anymore. It won't charge, nor connect to itunes.

Does anyone know if the 3rd generation iPod shuffle charger cable will work for my 2nd gen? I don't see much difference, apart from mine having a dock, while the newer one is just a cable with the 3.5mm plug.

Have checked the local futureshop, bestbuy, and even London Drugs since they have ipod accessories, but no luck on finding the dock.
