Will a MacBook receive 5.1 via optical line in and output 5.1 via optical line out?

As the title says, if I were to connect a optical cable to the line in port of my MacBook and then use an optical to connect the MacBook to a home cinema system, would the MacBook then be able to output the 5.1 signal it is receiving through the optical line out?

This is so that I can have Xbox 360>MacBook>Home Cinema System. That way I can still play my games in 5.1 but also be able to play music from my MacBook at the same time if I want to.
